Week #0
Describe your hopes, dreams, and fears for internship.
I hope that this internship will give me the opportunity to recognize whether or not this field is something that I find interesting and want to pursue or change paths. I also hope that I will be surrounded by good people, co-workers, clients, etc. and that I am able to learn things that not only will help me with my future career path(s), but things that I can also take with me back to school and in my day-to-day life.
My dream is that my mentor is respectful and I am able to be open and flexible with them but still able to know what it is like in this environment and what does/does not make them unique compared to other physical therapy places.
I fear that I won't be able to learn due to the little amount of knowledge that I have going in and that it would be too much. I also fear that I will be scared to try a different form of internship next year in order to explore my interests because I won't like it as much as the current one (vice versa).

Week #1
Describe the culture at your internship, including how people interact, communicate and work together.
Week #2
How has or do you see your internship changing the way you consider that paths your future will take?
My internship has shown me that I do want to follow through with something in the realm of rehab and wellness because it allows me to connect with patients and it is a very fun and flexible environment. Especially from the help of my mentor and fellow co-workers and clients, I was able to understand the importance of working/interning at Perform.
What goods and/or services does your company provide to the community and how do they consider their role in the community, responsibilities to society?
Our company provides a comfortable spacious environment for people seeking rehab, physical therapy, massages, or even acupuncture in order to overcome their obstacles and exit feeling better than before. In the photo to the right, this client has been working with my mentor, Dr. Trevor for more than a year when she tore her ACL snowboarding and was not even able to walk. Now she can do all sorts of plyometric exercises and is going to snowboard for the first time since the incident this weekend.

Week #3
What are you thankful for in your internship experience?
I am most thankful to have this opportunity in order to be able to intern in such an amazing environment with the best mentor, employees, and clients that I could ask for. It's also very convenient to have a Sprout's right next door.
What are social interactions like in your workplace? Do people spend a lot of time socializing? Are people isolated, doing their own things? Lots of collaboration on work projects? Not much collaboration? How does the social dynamic impact or reflect the organization's work?
Physical therapy places usually take and treat multiple clients at once, whereas Perform is more one-on-one based which I would say that there is a good amount of socializing due to the fact that we are working with people for the most part and we need to understand the issues they are having in order to help them recover better and faster. There is a lot of collaboration and guidance via doctor and patient and I think that the social dynamic fits in very well to the warm and welcoming environment of Perform.

Describe how experiences at HTHMA have prepared you for your experience at internship.
My experiences at HTHMA could not have better prepared me for my time during Perform. I have been able to smoothly cruise through my internship because of the way I have been able to develop a better understanding of how to fit into an environment with an open-mind and being creative. Creativity plays a big role at Perform because they always have to adjust to each and every client's needs.

Week #4
Who is your mentor? Describe his or her life, education, career path and more.
My mentor is Dr. Trevor Weinstock. He is a 27 year old physical therapist who works at Perform Physical Therapy and Wellness. Growing up, just like any other boy he had many interests and wanted to make it as a superstar athlete, however, due to a hockey injury he suffered from hip issues. When he was in college, he had no idea what he wanted to be, but his coach sent him to his advisor who sent him to study and he majored. Now he works for Perform and helps those who are also trying to recover from hip pain such as himself to even torn ACLs.
What advice would you give to a junior in high school who wants to pursue a career in the field of your internship?
I suggest that they study at least somewhat/have an understanding of the medical field terminology and kinesiology. Of course their mentor and others will be there to explain it to them, but it makes a lot more sense when you already have a vague idea of what they're talking about.
Week #5
7. How do you feel about returning back to classes next week? Do you anticipate a different experience of school now that you have been immersed in a workplace? What are you looking forward to about coming back? What are you going to miss about internship?
I am excited to see my teachers and friends again, but not as excited to get back to actually working. I hope that I will be able to take what I learned from my internship such as discipline, accountability, and much more back into school, but I also hope that I don't have to worry about it too much. I am going to miss my mentor and all of the amazing people that I made connections with during my time at Perform.

In what ways has your internship inspired you to think about college? Have you discovered new colleges that you are interested in attending? Have you learned about new courses to study or majors to pursue?
Over the course of my internship, I have rethought my choices of where I wanted to go to for college. Before I wanted to go to UC Berkeley only because I heard it was nice, but now I am looking for college that better support my future career options. It also helped me think if I want to do sports medicine or physical therapy again next year or doing something completely different or something in the middle like an animal hospital.
